Role: Close-range point-defense autocannons designed to destroy incoming torpedoes and counter small attack craft.
Range: Short
Speed: High fire rate
Damage: Low per shot, high sustained
Overview
AFGS provide a critical defensive layer specialized in destroying incoming torpedoes and small seaborne threats. They are typically used in pairs or as mixed-defense arrays on cruisers and destroyers to protect from torpedo strikes.
Tactics
- Use alongside KSAM to reduce aircraft and missile threats, and to complement torpedo defense.
- Switch to smoke + AFGS when torpedoes or small attack craft threaten to create a small window to reposition.
