Q: Why different types of AA?
Every AA system has a unique job—here’s why you need all three! Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each anti-air system is crucial for building a balanced and effective defense, both in real-world naval combat and in games like Modern Warships.
Missiles — Long-Range Interceptors
Missiles are your first line of defense, designed to intercept aerial threats like strike fighters, bombers, and fast-moving aircraft before they get close. However, as technology advances, machine guns struggle to keep up with the speed and maneuverability of modern missiles and jets.

Lasers — Modern All-Rounders
Lasers represent the cutting edge of anti-air technology. They fire beams of concentrated energy at the speed of light, making them incredibly effective against the fastest and most agile threats, such as hypersonic missiles or advanced strike fighters.

Unlike traditional weapons, lasers don’t rely on ammunition and have virtually no travel time, so they can engage multiple targets in rapid succession. Their main limitations are range and sustained damage output—lasers are less effective against heavily armored or shielded targets, and their power requirements can be high.

When to rely on lasers: When you need to neutralize high-speed, high-tech threats that other systems can’t hit, or when you want a reliable, ammo-free defense for continuous protection. Lasers are especially valuable in the late game or against advanced missile barrages.
